Is this a ‘real’ birth class?
You bet your booty it is! We are CAPPA-certified childbirth educators who’ve taught many, many classes over the years, and this is the curriculum we’ve been building and teaching. In fact, this is a great opportunity to get our Birth Unlearning class at a really reduced price! (And because we are certified, we can send you a receipt to request reimbursement from your insurance company. AND you can pay using your FSA or HSA account.)
How long is the class?
As long as you need it to be; you watch it at your own pace, and you have access to it for as long as you need to. The course includes over nine hours of video footage!
What if I need more help than you can offer online?
TBH, this is pretty likely; we can't do it all for you. But what we CAN do is: help you find a care provider that is a good fit for you (or help make sure your current care provider is a good fit for you), give you support and informational guidance within our program, and build community with you. We can help connect you to resources near you that can help you with what you need. Our goal is to support you in having the best possible outcome, both physically and emotionally.
What about my partner or support person?
Partners and other support people are a huge, important part of this experience, and we want to welcome them! So please, watch the videos with your partner, encourage them to join you in doing the journaling questions and prompts in the workbook, and welcome them into this process. We are here for them, too!
What if my birth preferences are different from the other parents that I know?
Of course they're different! That's the great thing about classes with us: we know that each parent's story is unique and beautiful, and we want to meet you where you are on your path. Our whole vibe is about being nonjudgmental and recognizing that you are a grown person who gets to make their own decisions, and our job is to give you the information you need to empower yourself and then cheer you on as you go. We know that folks with all different philosophies can get along and help each other out, because we see it every day in our free Sisterhood group.
Who is this Lifeboat program for?
It's for pregnant folks who want to have a positive experience of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and feeding their baby. It’s for folks who want a prenatal class that isn’t in person. It's for people who want to celebrate their pregnancy journey but may not feel like they can find that in person. It's for pregnant people who would like to get access to information without having to wade through the google overwhelm. It's for anyone who is looking forward to having a baby but may be nervous about how it will all happen, for anyone looking to build a supportive community around themselves. It’s for people of all gender identities and family types. It’s for parents who know they want an epidural and parents who want an unmedicated birth. It’s for everyone. It's for you.
Will this make birth and parenting super easy?
LOL no. These things are never easy, because they're worth doing really well. They're not hard because you're doing them wrong, they're just hard. And they're worth it. We aren't here to 'save' you from anything, just to make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions, the support you need to feel centered, and the community you need to feel held.
